|Lancaster Ss| The further Informaion of Henry Horsfaile Chymist of Lancaster taken \on Oath/ {this} 26. day of August 1703

Who saith that ab.t 5. years agoe Leonard Townson of Hornby in the Sd County Gent came to this Inform:t to Lancaster for some Stamp paꝑ but this Inform:t haveing none then ready stampt, he ye Sd Townson and this Depon.t went into an upper room in the house of Edmo Townson of this town of Lancaster Attorney at Law, Bro.er to ye Sd Leonard; and there the Sd Leonard Townson did actually press or stamp severall Sheets of paper with a counterfeit stampt in the similitude of a Sixpenny stamp and as the Sd Townson stamp the paꝑ he this Depon.t marked the same Sheets with the black mark, and after that the Sd Leonard took a way with him near the Quantity of a Quire soe stampt or mark't pay this Depon.t a very Small matter fro it. And further saith yt about 3. Years agoe, this Inform:t did deliver unto the said Edmo Townson the Quantity of a Quire or more of the like Counterf.t paper, of double Sixpenny Stamps, the which he the Sd Ed,o Townsō knew to be Counterfeit Stampt paper, and for the same gave this Inform:t very little or nothing. And further saith that he hath seen the Sd Edm.o Townson write upon the same counterfeit Stamp paper so had of this Depon.t as aforesd. And further saith that he is positive that those writeings on counterfeit stamp paper (wch this Depon.t hath this day seen, and picked out from amongst the paꝑ and Writeings of Thomas Backhouse, were not any of them recd by the said Thomas Backhouse from this Inform:t directly of Indirectly.
